Ionut Mares is a highly accomplished executive with over 18 years of experience in airfreight management, operations, customer service, and business development. He currently serves as the Global Head of Air Freight at Nippon Express Holdings, where he oversees an annual business of over 900 thousand tons and leads the transformation of the airfreight division from Japan-centric to a top global freight forwarder. Prior to this, Ionut was the Country Head of Air Freight at DHL Global Forwarding Japan, where he significantly improved the department’s performance, tripling annual EBIT and achieving the highest airfreight export volume in the company’s history. He also managed the import of over 250 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine and the local distribution to the entire Japan (including small and remote islands).
