Michiel has been involved with China since 2006. After studying there, he worked for the European Union Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China before he set up his own company. In his different roles he saw the many sides of one of the biggest trade relationships in the world: China and Europe. He founded the company Alioth in 2021 to support European suppliers in becoming successful on Alibaba.com, the largest B2B marketplace in the world.
